, founder + creator of The 700 Experience is a destined-to-be authority of resort travel, style & connoisseurship in the islands of The Bahamas. As a direct descendant of United Empire Loyalists, a family that dates back 6 generations to landfall in the Bahamas in 1789, she travels through time with all of the strength and power of those who came before her to herald the islands’ beauty, sanctity and progress.
Ralph Lauren once wrote “It strikes me that many people may dream of leaving high-profile lives in New York or London to go and live on a tropical island, but very few actually do it – or have the imagination and creativity to make it work.”
These are words for which she did not gain a true respect for until her departure from New York City in the Spring of 2010, a time when she would return to her birthplace, Nassau the capital of The Bahamas to do just that, make. it. work.
And so the story goes…
After completing an education abroad with a degree in marketing Vanessa sought the quintessential New York experience – living and working in the fashion capital of the world. In Summer 2009, she accepted an internship turned career at Full Picture, a full-fledged multimedia company at the crossroads of the fashion and lifestyle industries. This is where her career first took shape as a publicist to high-profile clients Victoria’s Secret, Hilary Rhoda and fashion week title sponsor Mercedes-Benz (USA).
However, fate and irony would have it, that she’d find her road to self-discovery was not to take place in a metropolitan city rich with sidewalk culture but on a familiar island shore. As writer George Moore once said, “A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.” Once back she’d land on her feet at the famed mega-resort Atlantis and there she’d join a dynamic team with a cutting-edge understanding of the value in creating, marketing, and publicizing one-of-a-kind experiences. Overtime though she would become familiar with the 20/80 career rule, bringing her to the decision to leave the tug of the corporate world behind to launch The 700 Experience.
“I realized The Bahamas was my dearest subject and given my career to date the next logical step was to establish a platform on which I could publicize + market the authentic experiences, unique lifestyle and rich culture of The Bahamas. There are unchartered waters here for me, much of The Bahamas I have yet to discover, and to some degree the same can be said about myself. But here is what I do know, from here on I choose to be island bound and with each step discovery will take place on a different shore, unlike many things in our lives that are over-commercialized, the unique experiences of The Bahamas are not one of them.”
As she leaves she intones, “as my dearest form of expression my blog continues to evolve and I with it.”
Be a part of the experience.
